She also ran the Classics list at Vintage, Penguin Random House, and was a freelance commissioning editor for Arcadia Books. Alan Fraser

Alan Fraser

Alan Kane Fraser is a writer from Birmingham (UK). His debut stage play Random Acts of Malice won the inaugural Derek Lomas Award for New Writing, but for the past decade he has focussed on writing fiction. He studied on the Ultimate Novel Writing Course in 2021/22 and within a two of months of finishing he had received two offers of publication for his ‘book club fiction’ novel The Muse of Hope Falls, which was published by Lightning Books in October 2023. He has also had short stories appear in Digbeth Stories and Night Time Economy (both Floodgate Press).

Nicky Downes

Nicky Downes

Nicky Downes is the bestselling author of the DI Jack Kent police procedural series set in Birmingham and the psychological thriller, Her Perfect Girl. She lives in Coventry, where she works as an education trade union officer. She is also an avid campaigner for libraries. From an early age, Nicky spent hours in her local library devouring all the Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers’ books, being a huge fan of crime novels. Her favourite authors are Val McDermid, Mark Billingham and Fiona Cummins. When she isn’t working, or writing, you can often find her cruising the canals in the Midlands on her narrowboat, Chanelle. Nicky says, ‘I find it so relaxing at the tiller. It’s where I get the best ideas for my novels.’

Becky Jones

Becky Jones

Becky Jones was born in the northwest of England and now lives in Oxfordshire. She is a mother of two who can almost remember working in cafés and going to sixth form parties rather than waiting outside to drive her children home. Unearthing her teenage diary in the loft reminded her she'd been dreaming of writing fiction for even longer than the twenty years she'd spent editing English Language textbooks. So, she stopped prevaricating and started writing, and with a little help from a course with Jericho Writers and lots of support from family and friends, she produced Searching for Amy, her debut novel, which she has now self-published.

Jack Chandler

Jack Chandler

Sleep-deprived mother, wife, author, and willing participant in an unbalanced cohabitation contract with a cat. She spends her time writing, playing strategic board games, doing puzzles, and turning the house and garden into a jungle. Her first thriller, Ripped Into, became a Hot New Release within five days of publication, and a Bestseller on Amazon within two weeks. The second in the series will be out in August of this year.
